  1. The only ruins in the neighbourhood are those of an old church at Donoughmore Cross. This church was built in the site of an earlier one built by Saint Lacteen.
The nearest castle ruins are those of the castle of Ballinamona which stands on a hill overlooking the river Clyda. This castle is (supposed) reported to have been bombarded from Mallow by Cromwell. The breach which was made in its walls was never repaired. The walls are now crumbling to ruin. Beside the castle are to be found the ruins of a famous Abbey called the Abbey of Mourne. St. Lacteen's well once situated at Goulane is reputed to have moved. A graveyard once situated at Gort St Ann's is said to have removed to Mathey (Mágh teithe leaving some graves behind.
