   The "Garlach" was a child that lived at some remote period and was noted for wisdom. To him the old people attributed many of the "seanfhochail." For example. This child's mother was coming home one-day and instead of going to the ford or bridge to cross the river she tried to come over directly to her house. She was drowned in the attempt. A year elapsed and then the child said. "Bliain is lá indiu do báitheadh mo mháthair agus do bheád sí an thímcheall ó shoin" This was the local way of saying "The longest way around is the nearest way home.
