Irons they were falling & bullets they were flying
From 6 o'clock that morning until 7 there that night,
Until Rev. Father Coveny on horseback he came there,
With bands and banners before him out & tar-barrels in the air"
I got this poem from Jerry Hurley, Kilbarry, he doesn't remember any more of it.
When Daniel Grace was evicted a man named Lynch from Bantry came to the farm as an "emergency man".
This Lynch was shot, and Grace was accused of shooting him, it was proved however, that Grace wasn't in the locality at the time of the shooting, so naturally he was acquitted. The murderer was never found out.
John Clarke, Upper Inch, told me he remembers having an eviction take place in the house of a Mr Leary, Milane.
