  1. People rarely wore boots in former times until they were grown up.
    Many of the older women used go bare foot except when they went to town, Mass, funerals etc.
    About 90 yrs ago a woman in this district, walked to Cork & home again in a day - the total distance she covered was 80 miles - & she was barefoot; she left home at 2 o'clock on a fine Summer morning & she was home in time to milk her cows.
    The woman's name was Peg Donovan.
    If a person washes his feet at night, the water should not be thrown out until next morning.
    People say the Round Tower of Kinneigh (about 6 miles from Dunmanway) was never completed because a woman threw away the water in which she had washed her feet.
