A curious fact is that the carvings on the west side though exposed to the prevailing winds are much more easy to trace, and stand out more prominently than those on the east side. This may suggest the fact that the ones on the eastern side are much older, and belong to Pagan times, and the western carvings were done in the Christian period and that the same place may be used for religious ceremonies both by pagans and Christians.
The whole was surrounded by a wire paling about 40 years ago by the Cork Archaelogical Society, but it is now broken down. The ground around is rough or furrowed as if it were used as a kind of burial place or Cillín- Collector
