  1. There were once two boys going together to Ballinagree school. They were very fond of each other. When they were finished school one of them went over to America and the other one stopped at home. The former got to be very rich. He put his heart in money and after a while he forsook his religion. The other was very poor, depending only on the widow's pension that his mother was getting. When his mother died he was distitute and he had to put the bag on his back and beg. After a few years he broke his leg and was not able to beg. He went into the poorhouse. He recieved Holy Communion and was very happy. The American was unhappy though he had a lot of money. One day the American said that he would come home to Ireland and see his friend. When he landed in Ireland he expected to find his friend very rich but the people him that he was inside in the poorhouse. He went away to the place where he was. When he saw him he did not know him until he told him who he was. The rich man asked him (who) how was he. The poor man said that he was as happy as could be. The rich man said. "How could you be happy." The poor man said. "I go to Confession and Communion and what more do I want." When he said that the other man was surprised. The poor man asked him how was himself. The rich man said he was unhappy, and he began to tell the poor man that he worked hard the seven days of the week. The poor man asked him had he any religion. The rich man said. "Oh religion prayers and business never worked together"
