  1. The people long ago used make candles to which they used call stailleóg's in their own homes. The way to make them is to get pieces of calico or linen and twist them very tight. Then get the fat of a cow and melt it and put it in a bowl. Then catch the cloth with the tips of the fingers and draw it through the fat until the cloth soaks the fat. Take it out then and leave it dry. When it is dry it can be used as a candle. It will not last long at all.
