  1. Years ago, the time of landlordism in Ireland there lived in Dunamon Castle a cruel and merciless landlord, who evicted a poor widow and six children. When he arrrived at the hut, she had a pot of potatoes on the fire, and was preparing the scanty meal for the youngsters. She asked for time to feed her hungry little ones, but the pitiless tyrant seized the pot and fired it out on the street. She cursed him that dead or alive he might always carry the pot and pot hooks around his neck. After his death he came back and haunted the castle, he came faithfully every night, with the pot and pot hooks dangling from his neck. Some time after three men decided to defy the ghost, two of them carried guns and ammunition but the other relied on his prayers which his companions mocked. On the stroke of twelve the ghost as usual
