    preceeding a rain storm.
I have often heard that a blue blaze in the fire, or blue flames burning through the ashes denote rain. Also when soot falls down the chimney or the chimney puffs, a change can be expected. These latter signs I would compare to the little man and his umbrella, or the Elephant spraying water out of his trunk which we see on the daily papers weather forecasts, more disappointing and unreliable than true.
