    to the policeman and asked ''are you a good man''. He then told him to dress as a gentleman and come walking past Longford, and to have three armed men placed on either side of him. The highwayman approached but was seized by the six policemen.
    He was taken to Bridewell in Dublin and while in the dock said to Brennen ''if I was as wise five minutes after you passed, as I am now, I would not be here to.day.
    He was hanged and in his cave were found bodies of those whom he killed and purses of money. The one hundred pounds given to the policeman , and Brennen got five. Brennens nephew is a postman in Boyle post office . A fight arose and Brennen was accused of being in it. He dodged six mounted policemen and was at last caught by his mother who bound his hands with a hank of yarn. He was not guilty and jumped from the dock. ''Put him back and I sentence him to one months imprisonment '' said the judge. ''Thank you! my Lord! I could do that tied to the latch of a door.
