- (continued from previous page)on a big pan and this kept them from breaking when they are bent. Seven or eight of these plaited into each other made great whips.
They made ink by boiling the fruit of the bole tree, and straining it. This made very good ink.
The way they made the hamper baskets was, they used to boil the sally rods to make them clean and pliable. When they were boiled they were pealed. Then they were plaited together into a round shape. There was also a lid and a handle made for them. The people around here grew flax about 80 years ago. They used to spin it into linen. Some of the table cloths and sheets are still preserved. They are very yellow looking now with age but are in a very well preserved state.
