  1. The thatcher gets a bundle of oaten straw. He gets a fork and sticks it in the bundle and brings the bundle up on the house. He pulls it out in dulls and scollops it down to the roof. He throws water on it and beats it down with a thatching rake. If he were sowing it with ropes he would do it with a thatching needle.

  2. Years ago they used to thatch with rye straw and sedge got by the river. They made rope with green hay, with their hands. The tatch was tied down with these ropes.
