A lot of fish was eaten and all kinds of vegetables were eaten.
People did not eat late at night long ago. Rice and Cornflour were eaten on special occasions such as Christmas Day and Easter Sunday and this was supposed to be a great treat.
The tea came into this district first about sixty years ago.
Noggins were used before cups became common and the people used them for drinking butter-milk at dinner time.
Long ago the people used to kill a calf on special occasions and share it with their neighbours.
Boxty or Flummery was another special food. This was a mixture of raw potatoes and boiled potatoes. "Sowans" or "Samhains" (perhaps used at feast of Samhain, and hence its name). The ofall of oaten-meal was steeped for forty eight hours and strained. This was then boiled with salt and eaten with milk. This is still used in some houses in this district yet.
