- There are three forges in our parish. The smiths are the name of Craig and Smyth. Their people have been smiths for many years. The forges are situated in the village of Newbliss. One forge has a slated roof, and the other one has a tin roof. Some have a door the shape of a horse shoe. There is a fireplace in the forge. The smith uses the sledges, tongs, hammer, vise grips, and other implements at his work. The smith shoes asses and horses. He makes farm implements such as ploughs harrows, spades, and iron gates. Some of the work is done in the open air such as, shoeing wheels, fixing ploughs, and mowing machines. They were always looked upon as being strong men.
