    Tinkers go around in bands. They are sometimes called tin-smiths because the make and mend cans, pails, and other such things. They buy, sell and exchange horses and donkeys. They are called horse dealers. The women folk of the tinkers or travellers have the power of telling fortunes. Some of them get a lot of money for telling them. They can also read the cards. Those which come from foreign lands usually have a crystal. When you look into the crystal you can see all your future life.
    They always come to this place every Tuesday before the monthly fair which is held in the Fair Green Kilkenny. The best know around here are the Conors, Duffies, and Delaneys. When they meet at a fair there is always a row between them. Wicklow is said to be the home of the tinkers.
