- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)A man named Drohan - a process server lived in Bennettsbridge during the Tithe War. The rector who collected the tithes, was the Rev Butler Burnchurch.
There were defaulters, who did not pay the Tithe-dues in Woollengrange. Drohan was advised not to serve any more writs. When leaving one morning to serve writs he said that would be the last occasion that he would do so. His words were prophetic. He went in the Woolengrange direction. His mangled body was found there. There were police investigations and it was said to them that a bull was responsible for his death. It was generally known throughout the parish that he was a victim of the Tithe War.Another link with the Tithe War.
About 8 years ago I was presiding officer at the Bennettsbridge boothe. An old man 83 or 84 years of age came in to vote. I ascertained afterwards that his father fought at Carrickshock and he was one of the few that escaped. This man's name was James Finegan and he died three years ago.- Bailitheoir
