    in the house are anxious to know which of them will receive some of the gifts in the brack, some of them anxious for the ring, others for the threepenny bit and so on.
    A large tub of water is placed on the floor and a few apples are placed in it, and then, all the children try to get an apple with their mouths, without the aid of their hands. Others hang a lath in the shape of a cross out of the ceiling, and an apple is placed on one side while a candle rests on the other. Then all try to catch the apple, but it is often the candle that is caught.
    Nuts are roasted and various other tricks are resorted to. Parties are given by the country people to each other
