- In former times there were many types of industry carried on in our district, some of them still exist. Many people earned their living making candles from tallow, soap and baskets. In the local forges spades, nails, wheels and ploughs were made. The people of this district used spin and weave their own linen and dy clothes. The men used thatch houses, tan leather, make ropes and barrels. Nowadays timber gates and "cishes" are made and tubs are made by halfing barrels. The men spent a lot of their time fishing fowling and hunting
