Everyone big or small, who comes into a house, while the churning is being done, is supposed to turn the handle once or twice, as it is thought, that the butter, would not come, if they did not do so.
When the butter is made, the butter milk is removed, by taking out the plug, at the bottom of the churn, and allowing it to drain away. This milk is used, for making bread, and sometimes, it is given to the calves. After removing the milk, cold water, is thrown into the churn, to clean the butter.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
