  1. The wild birds seen in this district (Ballyhar parish, Co. Kerry) are the crow, the blackbird, the thrush, the robin, the sparrow, the wren, the green linnet, the wagtail, the cuckoo, the corncrake, the swallow, the wild goose, the snipe, the lark, the pheasant, the woodcock, the pigeon, the water hen, the starling, the yellow hammer, the golden plover, the magpie, the hawk, the curlew, the crane and the owl.
    The birds which migrate are, the cuckoo, the corncrake, the swallow, the wild goose, the golden plover and the woodcock.The cuckoo is heard in this country towards the end of April and leaves early in August. The same applies to the corncrake. The swallow comes in May and departs in September. The wild goose is not seen here except in winter. When the wild goose is seen snow may be expected. The golden plover is seen during the winter months. The woodcock is seen during this period also.
