Leac an tSagairt is situated between Bragan and Esh and is surrounded by heather. In the penal days the protestants wanted to keep down the catholic religion, so the priests had to go to the mountains and other silent places to read mass. If a priest was caught reading mass he would be killed and the church burned.
A priest named Father McKenna came to the mountains to read mass. He had a stone for the altar. He was followed by a band of soldiers and when they came to Esh they saw him. There was supposed to be a man from Cloughfin with them, who aimed at the candle and when the priest went over to the candle the [they?] shot him and killed him. The mark of the bullet is still to be seen there. The priest was buried there and a little rise is still to be seen called "The Priest's Grave".
