  1. At one time the Protestant Church in Castlecomer was a Catholic one but the Protestants took it. There are four crosses on the spire of it and men filled in these with cement, but every morning the cement was gone so the had to leave the crosses there. When they couldn't cement them up they put up scaffolds and they tried to chisel them out, but when the man asked for the chisel the others couldn't understand him and then all the men began to speak different languages and the couldn't finish the job.
