  1. Long ago bread was made from wheat and corn, grown locally. Potato Cake, Boxty Bread, Wheat cake, Oaten Cake were baked. A cross was put on when the bread was baked in an oven. Oat bread used to be baked on a griddle which stood in front of the fire.

  2. People had three meals a day - breakfast, dinner and supper. The cows were milked and the calves, pigs and hens were fed before breakfast. Potatoes were eaten at dinner and super and buttermilk was drunk. The table was placed near the wall and when the meal was over the table was hung up against the wall. Oaten bread was mostly eaten - it was made from oatmeal and water and baked on the griddle. The supper was taken about 2 hours before bedtime. Noggins were used before cups became common.
