    Long ago people made stations at holy wells for cattle as well as for people.
    There is a place near Bohola called "Loch Ciaráin" where people performed rounds of pious exercises for cattle.

    It is the first of Lent and there is ashes put by the priest on people's foreheads. A grain of salt is thrown on each boy and girl who should have got married during shrove to preserve them for another year they say.
