- During the last 40 years there were practically no changes in the houses in this district.
The majority of them are thatched up to the present day.
It is only during the last few years that a few new houses were built under the "Housing Scheme"
The old houses consisted of three apartments - two rooms and a kitchen. The kitchen was in the middle and the rooms were at both ends.
The floors were made of daub and they rooms, were usually very damp in a Winter-time and in wet weather.
Some of the walls were built of daub and heather. This is called a mud-wall. There are remains of mud-wall houses up to the present day.
There were no arch-ways in the chimneys they were opened to the front and this was called "poll darac" or the smoke hole.
