- There are a great many forts in this County.
They are all situated on high ground.
It is the belief of the people that the fairies live in these forts.
There was a ditch outside every fort and an embankment inside . These were made to protect the chieftains who lived in them from wild beasts and from enemies.
The forts were in sight of each other so that they could signal to each other if the enemy were coming.
They are round in shape and there are bushes growing round them .
No person cuts these bushes or ploughs the forts .
There is an underground passage going from one for to the other .There are many names for forts . They are called fort, liss , rath,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
