  1. There was once a man and woman who lived in our townland. Their name was James and Mary Conboy. Mary was out one day on the road. She was looking up the road and the sun was in her eyes. There was not talk of bicycles at the time. There was a big hill coming to the house. She saw a policeman coming down the hill on a bicycle. She ran into the house and ran under the bed, and called James into the house and told him that she saw the devil riding on nothing. He ran out and saw him too and came in and told Mary to come out, that it was surely the devil going so fast that he would not stop until he would land in "Fiddlers' Green" nine miles below hell.
