- The people in olden times used to make "Oaten Griddle cakes."
They only made a (cakes) cake (where there was a big family) once in two weeks, and where there was a small family they made one once a month. In the cake, they put from one to two stones of oaten meal. When the cake was cooked, it was rolled in a white sheet made of flax to keep it fresh.
