Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Travelling people still call to houses. Some of them have been doing so for many years. They are very poor. Some sell cans, porringers and other tins. Others sell collar pins, floor carpets and other small articles. Sometimes these travellers are welcomed especially those who are selling tins. They make the vessels themselves. Those people remain longer than a week sometimes. They sleep on the roadside under a tent. They beg food from people around. The alms they accept generally are flour, milk, potatoes, bacon, tea and sugar. They travel on carts. Some travel in families while other travel in bands. They have no special time for visiting. It is seldom they tell stories and bring news from distant parts or the people do not gather around to hear them.
