  1. Weather Lore
    The old people knew that bad weather was approaching when they saw a ring round the moon or when the sky turned red at twilight.
    Fine weather - the sun usually went down red. A fog around the moon at night was the sign of an approaching storm.
    Birds & Animals - If the cat was inclined to sit purring near the fire or if the dog ate grass bad weather was near at hand.
    The snail leaving his box and crawling about: little insects known as "mires" running along the ground: the curlew screaming very mournfully - signs of bad weather. Fine weather when the smoke curled straight up the chimney: the robin was seen to fly higher and the swallow twittered high up in the sky.
