'Meenavenaghan' means the bog of the peaks.
'Magheralan' means the wide townland.
'Gortany' means the stubborn field.
'Cruckglass' means the green hill because it always looks so green.
'Clunelly' the cattle side of the hill.
'Carrowkeel' means the slender quarterland.
'Three Trees' got its name from the tall trees that grew there.
'Gortnamonagh' means the turf field, because turf were formerly cut over it.
'Gortnagare' means the field of the goats.
'Meedinmore' means the big meadow.
'Meedinbue' means the yellow meadow.
'Meedinroe' means the red meadow.
