    Men of the locality were more distinguished on the field of sport in former times than in present days. At all sports within a radius of three miles and in Rathmullan Regatta men from Ray and Ballyconnely stood out prominent and usually carried off all the trophies.
    Men of Ray and the vicinity after their days labour congregated at Ray Mills. Competitions such as weight lifting putting the shot hand balls and high jumping etc. were indulged in The most prominent men in these games I will mention here-: Weight lifting, Myles Sweeney, Pat Mc Fadden Charlie Mc Bride and Robert Proctor all these men belong to Ray. Daniel Gallagher, Alick Delap and James Mc Geever. These Men belong to Ballyconnely.
    I will now mention the outstanding achievements of these men.
    Myles Sweeney was the only man succeeded in lifting a giant bolder
