Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The houses that were built long ago were not the same as they are now. Long ago there were no slate roofs because the people were too poor. The houses were thatched with straw, flax, rushes or bent. The fire was situated in the gable end and the top of the chimney was made of blue clay mixed with Shist which is found in plenty here. The floors were made of blue clay or flags.
    The house was built of stones and plastered with blue clay. There was only one small window in them.
    On every house there was a half door and there is nearly one on every house in the district still. These small houses were called by the name [Dorieac ?].
    The had no oil lamps or no gas lamps, such lights were never heard of.
    They made rushlights themselves. First they peeled the rushes and dipped the inside in cow fat called
    (leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
