  1. Our district is not in any way connected with any movement in Irish History as far as the old people know. In olden times the old people defended the coast as can be seen by a number of old forts in our district along the sea shore. The fort nearest to us is on a small hill near Inver Bridge.
The old people cannot remember any battle ever being fought in olden times. Some sixteen years ago an ambush took place in Castleogry Back, between Free State and Republican soldiers. After a short fight the Republicans with drew, but it is not known if anyone was killed.
The people took part in the Land War. They tried to prevent the people from paying money to the Land Lords. After a prolonged struggle they were successful in doing away with the Land Lords.
In February 1921 there was an ambush at Mountcharles. In this ambush an murder took place. A policeman was killed. Then as a reprisal for this murder a girl was killed.
