- The following are the farm animals, which we keep at home, cows, calves, a donkey, hens, geese, ducks and turkeys. The place in which the cows are kept is called the byre. Rushes are generally used as bedding for the cows. The cows and calves are tied with chains.
So as to prevent the horse from being overlooked, every horse-man ties a piece of red ribbon on the horse's winkers or he paints a bit of it red. This is the way the way the hens are called to food: "Chuc, Chuc, Chuc". This is the way the ducks are called to food: "Wheet, Wheet, Wheet".
This is the way geese are called: "Gleg, Gleg, Gleg".
This is the way turkeys are called: "pea, pea, pea".
This is the way calves are called: "suck, suck, suck".
This is the way cows are called: "teh, teh, teh".
This is the way chickens are called: "birdie, birdie, birdie".
