Long ago the people had no light except rush candles. They cut and dried the rushes and [stepped?] steeped them in melted fat. They were lit at night in order that the people would see to spin. A member of the family had to hold the candle while the woman used to spin. Tucking was done with a needle and thread by the hand.
For ropemaking the rushes used to be boiled, beetled, [stepped?] steeped and dried. They then used to be plaited and made into ropes. There was a cooper living in this townland who used to make, tubs, churns, and barrels.- Bailitheoir
