When croittel is boiled it makes a yellow dye; ash and alder leaves and briar roots make a dark dye and heather makes a purple dye. These dyes used to be used by old women who used to spin. They used to dye wool and then make webs of it of various colours. When selling this cloth they used to make much profit on it.
The people of the district do not know any herbs which contain poison except hemlock.
