- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)About the year 1884 there was a large flood in the town of Donegal. The Atlantic ocean around the mouth of the Esk [sic] swelled so it flooded the town. The boats all cam floating up with the tide and stuck against the weigh bridge which was in the Diamond. One fisherman named James Keenan fastened his boat to his neighbours door. His neighbour on hearing a knocking at the door opened the door as quick as he could and on doing so unfastened the boat. The boat went floating up the Row [?], a street on the Killymard side of the river Esk, and was lost. Many funny things happened during this flood. One incident was described in the following couplet,“Charles Doherty made himself “big”,
By trying to save his wee pig.A (poetic) person with a poetic strain of mind said that“When the sea began to turn,
It swept away John Bell’s wee Churn.”(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
