    Our local fair
    Long ago the fairs were very much different to the present day fairs. The place where they hold the fairs is beside the school and it is localy called the "Fairgreen". Long ago it was a commons. The people of the village used to put their animals out in it to graze. The land-lord has it fenced in now. When they used to be selling the cows they used always give the buyer five shillings back and they called they called this luck-penny. They usually a mark (on) of some kind on the beast they are buying so that they may know them from the others.
