    One day as Edward Brenen was coming home from Castlebar he took a near cut through Ballyknock; as he was crossing the lake on his bicycle he met a spring-well and down he went. As he was going down he caught hold of some part of the bicycle and swung on to it; then he shouted for help and a man came and relieved him. When the men saw him at first, there was only his head up. Then they got ropes and pulled him up. He was almost lost, but he is living yet a fairly young man.
