  1. Long ago there were not dance halls as there are now. There were dances held in the houses called "Lots".
When a dance was held in a house a large crowd was gathered. The youngsters went very long distances to a dance house. When a big crowd gathered into a dance house there was not much space for dancing and sometimes the dances were not comfortable.
When "Lots" were held the youngsters wore clogs to them. They made great noise with the clogs when dancing with them. Reels and Hornpipes were often danced at "Lots".
