    Long ago there lived a well-to-do farmer.

    (continued from previous page)
    She told them to tie the hounds. When the old woman thought the hounds were tied she called them. They came and killed the men. One man escaped. The woman changed with a band the bodies of the men into stepstones.
    The man who escaped then called the hounds. They sprang at the old woman and killed her. The man then took the wand and changed the other men back to their right form.
