    The next kind of dwellings which came after these "botháin" were common houses made of stones some of which exist at the present day. The roofs of these houses were made in much the same way as the "botháin" except that the chimneys were plastered with clay and lime and thatched on the outside with rushes. These chimneys were usually on the gable-end of the kitchen. There were generally two rooms in those houses. Sometimes there was no glass in the windows only a hole in the sidewall with a door on it which they closed at night or when it was raining. Those houses had clay floor which certainly would not present a very pleasant appearance on a wet day.
    Sometimes there were two doors to the dwellings and along with the front door there was a half-door which was left closed while the front door was open.
    The domestic animals such as cows and horses were always kept in the kitchen at night but they were driven out to the pastures in the morning and brought back again in the evening just as they are brought back to the barns nowadays.
