  1. The following story was told by Mr.D. Solon. Kiltimagh
    The Steeple of Meelick
    The people of Meelick believe that it was an old woman that built their steeple. The place where the steeple now stands was a dreaded place in days gone by.
    The people used to see battles fought there at night. They used to also see giants standing on the spot.
    This woman came from the direction of Kiltimagh and crossed the river Trimouge at a place called Bollagh. She had a pocket of stones with her and in crossing the river she lost one of them. The stone she lost is still to be seen in the middle of the river. The people say that stone is over a ton weight.
    When she had the steeple to the height it is at preasent, a crowd of young men were coming from a dance and they started laughing at her. She threw herself down with rage
