house while churning is going on they churn a while because if they went out without churning the fairies would take the butter with them. We know when a churning is made because the dash gets heavy and the butter floats on the milk. When the churning is done the dash is worked round in a circle to gather the butter. Next the butter is taken out and made into rolls. When people have buttermilk they use some of it for making bread and give the rest of it to pigs and calves.
