  1. Forth is called from the people called Fotharta, descended from Eochaidh Finn Tuathart, brother of the celebrated Irish King Conn of the Hundred Battles, who lived in the second century. There were many districts known as the Fortha, but those in Carlow and Wexford were the most famous.
    O'Heerin calls it "Forth of the corn, fair rising ground of strength and beauty.
