  1. Castle of Ballyrane
    Is situated in the western
side of the parish of Killinick
not far from the village. It
    was in good preservation, and
    about 60 feet high, according
to Dr. O Donovan. It was erected
    by the great Wadding
    family. By the death in
    1707 of John Wadding, who
    married first a daughter
of Dowdall of Drogheda, and secondly Mary Furlong, and
    left no issue, this ancient
    family became extinct.
