    and plundered its army and finally breaking down its flanking walls and burning it.
    Thus it remained till about the year 1402. Lochlan McNamara founded and endowed the present Abbey as a Franciscan Monastery.
    The remains are still in an admirable state of preservation and are likely to remain so having been included among the historical buildings to be kept in repair by the Board of Works.
    The tomb of the founder still remains, and the cloisters and walls enclosing the precincts of the Abbey are full of monuments erected to deceased members of the McNamara sept.

    In the year 1433 Pople Eugene IV issued a bull to Macon Mac Namara granting Powers for the Franciscan Order to take possession of Quin Abbey and there they remained until it was occupied by Cromwells
