    The only time people could get married during Shrove.It is said happy is the corpse that the rain rains on,but happy is the marriage the sun shines on.It was usual to give a fortune to the bride.The people used to walk the land.All the people used to come to the bride's house for "the picking of the gander ".They used to have very big weddings.After the marriage all the people used to go off on horse-back.

    The marriages generally around Shrove .There are matches made still and there are fortunes given .When two people are to get married they walk the land.
