Some people believe if a man is the first visitor on New Year's Day they will have good luck for the year, but if a woman is the first visitor they will have bad luck.
When old people see tea-leaves near the handle of their cup, they believe they will have a letter in a few days. They put one tea-leaf on the back of their hand. They put the back of their other hand down on the teal-leaf and try to take it up. If they do not take it up the first time, then it will be one day until they get a letter. They keep on doing that until they take it and it will be as many days until they get a letter as they made attempts to take up the tea-leaf. They also believe if they see a ring of tea-leaves in their cup they will be married before the year is out.
